SLO Chamber in China

March 12th, 2007

As was mentioned sometime last quarter, the SLO Chamber of Commerce is taking a tour of China - in fact they are there right now. Here’s a link to the brief article (Biz Buzz: 200 SLO Chamber Members Travel to China) in the Tribune about it. And here’s a link to their Blog (not that we don’t have enough to read already!)

I had someone come into the hotel I work at a few weeks ago that was going. She was in human resources and was unsure what she would do back there since they lack in that department. I found it interesting after Professor Frayne’s discussion.

It’s great to see other organizaitons/groups in San Luis Obispo to learn about the fast-growing economy of China. As Dr. Carr has stated numerous times, people in San Luis Obispo can become content and happy living in a “central-coast bubble. It’s refreshing and exciting to see more people, especially in California’s Central Coast taking note of the global economy and taking steps to learn more. I wonder if they knew/know about our China trip?

Until know, I hadn’t really gotten on the China bandwagon. I have looked forward to going, but I hadn’t gotten excited about it until reading that blog. The way they discribe the scenery and the food and the people makes me even more curious and interested to see it myself.

200 people really does seem huge - but it’s a great opportunity for business owners, etc. It’ll be interesting to check their blog in more detail. They’re going to a lot of the same places we are.
